At least 13 people, among them eight children, were killed after a drone struck a residential home in the city of El-Obeid, in Sudan’s North Kordofan State. According to medical officials, most of the victims were members of the same family.
The strike occurred in a neighborhood under the control of the Sudanese army. Medical sources indicated that the attack was carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which have been attempting to seize the city for several months.
The incident marks another grim chapter in Sudan’s civil war, now nearing its third year. The conflict between the army and the RSF has forced more than 11 million people from their homes and left hundreds of thousands dead. The United Nations and humanitarian groups have described the situation as the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.
Witnesses reported that the drone strike targeted a house in a densely populated area, killing civilians and causing widespread destruction. Medical workers described the attack as part of a growing pattern of indiscriminate bombings on civilian neighborhoods.
El-Obeid remains a strategic stronghold for the army, lying between the capital, Khartoum, and the Darfur region, where the RSF has expanded its influence.
The latest strike follows recent attacks, including one on a power plant in El-Obeid and an alleged RSF attempt to target the country’s largest hydroelectric dam near Merowe.
