Adjoafua Community SHS Appeals for Urgent Infrastructure Support

Adjoafua Community Senior High School, a community day SHS in the Bia West District of the Western North Region, has made a passionate appeal to the government and benevolent organizations to help address its worsening infrastructural challenges.

The school, which started as a community initiative before being absorbed into the public system in 2016, currently operates with only two six-unit classroom blocks—one built by the GNPC and the other by the community. With the growing student population, these facilities have become woefully inadequate.

During the school’s SRC Week celebration, several students expressed concern about the poor learning conditions. They revealed that some classroom roofs leak whenever it rains, forcing lessons to halt as water pours into the rooms. Others lamented the lack of a school bus, explaining that the long distance between the town and the school poses serious difficulties especially during the rainy season.

School authorities also raised similar concerns. Mr. Mark cobina Daniel commended both students and teachers for their academic efforts despite the challenges but emphasized that the infrastructural situation is critical. He mentioned the shortage of classrooms, the lack of accommodation for teachers, and the absence of a pickup vehicle for the headmaster, who currently depends on a tricycle for daily commuting — a situation that affects administrative work.

Mr. Daniel added that although the school has a computer laboratory, only one computer is functional, making ICT lessons nearly impossible. He appealed for the construction of additional classrooms and the provision of essential logistics, including a school bus and ICT equipment.

A founding member of the school, Mr. Isaiah Kwarteng, praised the dedication of the teaching staff and their resilience amid the many challenges. He also urged the government to prioritize infrastructure development for the for the school should be considered, including the possibility of converting it into a boarding institution to relieve students who travel long distances each day.

As part of his personal contribution, Mr. Kwarteng pledged to donate five computers to enhance ICT education and announced plans to submit proposals to key stakeholders, including the Member of Parliament for Bia West. He appealed to NGOs, corporate bodies, and other benevolent individuals to support the school in improving its learning environment and promoting quality education in the area.
