A newly constructed police station for the Akontombra District Police Command is set to be commissioned soon. The facility, which was completed some time ago, has not yet been put to use, leaving residents concerned about security in the district.
The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr. Joseph, revealed that the police station was built under the previous government but had remained idle for several years. Upon assuming office, he initiated inquiries to determine why the facility was not operational despite its completion.

According to him, the main challenges left to be addressed were the installation of an electricity meter to connect power to the building and ensuring access to water. He explained that provisions have already been made to resolve these issues so that the station can become fully functional.

The DCE also indicated that once the police move into their new facility, the old police station will be converted into a fire station. He said the district currently has no fire service station, which has been a major worry for residents. The conversion of the old building is therefore expected to improve emergency response services in Akontombra.
He further noted that only a few finishing touches remain before the police station can be handed over to the Ghana Police Service. He assured the public that the district assembly is committed to ensuring that the facility is ready for commissioning without further delay.

The establishment of the new police station, according to Mr. Joseph, will strengthen security operations in the district. It is expected to help reduce crime, improve law enforcement visibility, and enhance the overall safety of communities within the Akontombra District.

He added that the official commissioning of the police station will take place within a month. This development is anticipated to bring great relief and renewed hope to residents who have long awaited improved security and emergency services in the district.
