Aowin Divisional Commander Declares Drug Abuse a Growing Canker

The Aowin Divisional Police Command has described drug abuse as a major canker threatening the future of the youth in the municipality. According to the command, the increasing rate of addiction is destroying the potential of many young people and remains one of the greatest challenges confronting society.

At a town hall meeting organised by the Aowin Municipal Assembly in Enchi, the Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Abdullah Iddrisu, said drug addiction has become a serious concern for both the police and the community. He explained that the police are stepping up their efforts to combat the situation but cannot win the fight alone.

Chief Superintendent Iddrisu called on stakeholders, including traditional leaders, religious organisations, civil society groups, and opinion leaders, to join forces in tackling the menace. He emphasised that the future of the municipality depends on safeguarding the youth from the destructive path of drugs.

The commander further expressed worry over the increasing number of road accidents in the municipality. He noted that reckless driving, disregard for traffic regulations, and indiscipline on the road are claiming the lives of many energetic young people. The police, he assured, are working tirelessly to enforce traffic laws to reduce these preventable deaths.

On illegal mining, he revealed that the police have made several arrests of perpetrators, including foreign nationals, who have since been handed over to the Immigration Service for further action. He maintained that the police remain committed to clamping down on all forms of unlawful mining activities.

Chief Superintendent Iddrisu therefore urged all stakeholders to rally behind the police in the fight against drug abuse, road accidents, and illegal mining. He reiterated that the cooperation of every section of the community is needed to safeguard lives and restore order in the Aowin Municipality.
