Aowin MCE Identifies Roads, Health, and Education as Major Challenges

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Aowin, Mr. Stephen Morcher, has revealed that the pressing challenges facing the municipality remain poor road networks, inadequate healthcare facilities, and the need for equitable access to quality education.

Mr. Morcher made this known when he appeared before the Parliamentary Committee on Local Government and Development to brief members on the state of development in Aowin. His comments followed a question by the Chairperson of the Committee, who requested that the MCE outline the municipality’s most basic problems.

In his response, the Aowin MCE explained that the municipality is burdened by two major roads—Aowin to Elubo and Aowin to Sefwi Akontombra—both of which are currently in a deplorable state. He, however, noted that these roads have been captured under the government’s “Big Push Agenda” championed by the President and the Finance Minister, a development he described as timely and necessary.

Mr. Morcher further disclosed that aside from the two major trunk roads, the Assembly has resorted to using District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) machines to reshape other feeder roads. According to him, this intervention is aimed at reducing the pressure on residents who are greatly affected by the poor road infrastructure.

Touching on healthcare and education, the MCE emphasized the need for improved facilities and resources to enhance the living standards of residents. He noted that while efforts are ongoing, the Assembly continues to advocate for more government and stakeholder support in these critical sectors.

On financial performance, Mr. Morcher revealed that the Aowin Municipal Assembly had mobilized GH₵973,000 in revenue as of August 2025. He added that the Assembly is targeting GH₵1.5 million in revenue for the year, stressing that prudent financial management remains key to addressing the municipality’s challenges.

The Aowin MCE expressed gratitude to the President for including the municipality in the Big Push Agenda, which he believes will accelerate development. He assured the committee that the Assembly remains committed to working with central government and development partners to improve the livelihoods of the people of Aowin.
