The Mpasaso No 1 and 2 communities are in a state of terror and uncertainty following a resurgent gang fight in the area within the Ahafo Ano South-West District of the Ashanti Region.
The clash has left one person dead and three others including a pregnant woman in critical condition.
Many farmers have been forced to avoid their farms due to the violent incident that happened on July 23 at around 3:00pm and some students are scared to go to school.
Although there have been numerous violent battles in Mpasaaso, a town primarily made up of farmers and miners, locals say the most recent attack is among the worst.
In what locals have called a targeted act of intimidation, the attackers reportedly stormed the Queen Mother of Mpasaaso No. 2’s home after the fatal shooting, ransacking her room and destroying property.
Abusuapanin (family head) of Mpasaaso No. 2, Mr. Dwamena Mensah, spoke to the media and bemoaned the authorities’ inaction and the frequent attacks. An occurrence of this nature has occurred here before.
Although we have filed several complaints, no one has ever been arrested. Things continue to deteriorate,” he stated.
Another witness, Collins Appiah Afrifa, likewise voiced his intense annoyance at the absence of police action. “The Police Commander at Mankranso has been informed of everything, but nothing has been done . We have lost faith in the cops. We have no choice but to defend ourselves if the local authorities do not take immediate action,” he threatened.
In line with similar views, Kwadwo Asare, the Youth Leader, charged Abubakar Saddick, the District Chief Executive, with collusion.
“Even the thugs claim that the DCE supports them. If he doesn’t protect us by Friday, we’ll defend ourselves,” he said firmly.
In order to bring peace back to the neighbourhood and save lives and property, locals are now pleading with the Inspector General of Police and the Ashanti Regional Security Council (REGSEC) to intervene right away.
