AWASO STEM SHS EMERGES WINNER OF WESTERN NORTH READING FESTIVAL

Awaso STEM Senior High School has emerged as the winner of the 2025 Western North Reading Festival, an annual literacy competition organized by the Teacher Amoako Foundation in collaboration with the Network for Western North Development. The event was held on Friday, 28th November 2025, at Sefwi Wiawso Senior High School and brought together seven participating SHSs across the region.

At the end of the keenly contested reading competition, the schools scored as follows:

  1. Awaso STEM SHS – 54 points (1st position)
  2. Queens Girls SHS – 52.5 points (2nd position)
  3. Sefwi Bekwai SHS – 52 points (3rd position)
  4. Asawinso SHS – 49 points (4th position)
  5. Sefwi Wiawso SHTS – 48 points (5th position)
  6. St. Joseph SHS – 42.5 points (6th position)
  7. Sefwi Wiawso SHS – 38.5 points (7th position)

As the overall winner, Awaso STEM SHS received a cash prize of GH¢4,000. The first runner-up, Queens Girls SHS, was awarded GH¢2,000.
While the second runner-up, Sefwi Bekwai SHS, took home GH₵1000, the organizers stated that the aim of the reading festival is to improve literacy skills across senior high schools in the Western North Region and to encourage students to develop confidence in reading and comprehension.

The event attracted several dignitaries, including Mr. Bright Korankye Appau, Registrar of Enchi College of Education, and Mr. Michael Napor, Personal Assistant to Nana Tano Kaabah II, Chief of Enchi Kwawu. Nana Tano Kaabah II served as chairman of the occasion and also sponsored the ultimate prize for the winning school.

The Teacher Amoako Foundation and the Network for Western North Development expressed gratitude to all sponsors and pledged to continue organizing the reading festival annually to support literacy development among students in the region.
