The Deputy National Youth Commissioner of the NDC Professional Forum, who doubles as the spokesperson for Western north regional minister Mr. Benjamin Kwabena Afram has expressed his candid opinion that the presidential candidate and vice president Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has lost the moral authority to speak on economic issues in the country after presiding over the collapsed of the economic foundation.Mr Afram comment came in an interview with the media with regard to Dr. Bawumia argument that with no significant yet under the current budget, it would be inaccurate to attribute the Cedi appreciation to NDC led initiatives.
According to Mr Afram, inconsistency and contradictions on key economic matters have exposed a lack of credibility. He said if he is seeking reasons for the recent appreciation of the Cedi, he need look no further than the fact that, under the current administration, the fundamentals are now stronger—something he once used as a benchmark. The spokesperson added that it must be emphasized that he is not the only person who studied economics. Ghanaians are well-informed and will no longer be misled by economic rhetoric that lacks substance. Economics is not merely theoretical—it is a practical discipline meant to offer real solutions to real problems. Moreover, under the eight years of the NPP administration, fundamental finance theories were distorted. Traditionally, government bonds are considered risk-free or low-risk instruments.
However, under the NPP, they became more dangerous than even corporate bonds—an alarming deviation that eroded investor confidence and wrecked livelihoods. He further stated that the people of Ghana are demanding a transformation in how economic theory is applied—to deliver tangible improvements in their quality of life, not just abstract jargon. Dr. Bawumia and the NPP have no moral standing to criticize the current government after overseeing one of the most disastrous economic periods in the country’s history.
Mr Benjamin Kwabena Afram disclosed that the time has come to focus on rebuilding and transforming our economy with integrity and competence. The malicious attempts to discredit the good work of the NDC government will not succeed.
