Sefwi Wiawso, Western North Region – The Member of Parliament for the Sefwi Wiawso Constituency, Kofi Benteh Afful, has announced that a total of 10 kilometers of road construction has been secured for various communities in the constituency, with work expected to be completed by the end of 2025.
According to Afful, this development comes as a result of his extensive lobbying efforts aimed at addressing the road infrastructure challenges facing the area. The beneficiary roads include the Sefwi Asawinso–Kojina–Essakrom road, Asafo–Achiachin road, Kessekrom Junction to Township road, among others.
Speaking in a radio interview with Nana Yaw Adinkrah (Faya) on Faith 98.7 FM’s “Ghana Yiedie” Morning Show, the MP emphasized that although road infrastructure remains one of the most pressing issues in the municipality, particularly in rural areas, interim measures have been put in place. Feeder roads needing urgent attention, he said, will be reshaped every six months to ensure ease of movement for residents and transport of goods.
Afful also noted that, while the government is yet to deploy DRIP machines (Digital Road Inventory and Planning) across all districts, the Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly has mobilized internal resources to reshape key roads in the meantime.
During the interview, which coincided with his remarks at the Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly’s 2nd Ordinary Meeting of the 1st Session of the 9th Assembly, Afful revealed further plans tied to the 2025 fiscal year.
He disclosed that the municipality’s share of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) for this year would be significantly higher than in previous years. He added that 25% of the fund would go into the design and construction of a model market at Sefwi Asawinso as part of the implementation of the government’s 24-hour economy initiative.
In addition, 20% of the fund will be allocated to completing seven selected, abandoned but straightforward legacy projects across the constituency. According to him, Parliament has granted MPs the authority to monitor and ensure full completion of all funded projects before the release of additional funds.
