Bia West residents tell government to treat Asuopiri tragedy as a wake-up call to fix deplorable roads in the area

Residents of the Bia West District in the Western North Region have blamed the poor state of roads in the area for the tragic accident involving a timber truck and an aboboyaa that claimed eight lives.

Seven of the eight victims killed in the accident were laid to rest today at Asuopiri amid grief and anger, as family members, friends, and residents gathered to bid them farewell.

The accident, which occurred earlier this month, involved a timber truck that reportedly crashed into the tricycle due to the deplorable condition of the road after the aboboyaa rider failed to swerve the speedy timber truck.

According to the residents, the road has long been in a bad state, riddled with potholes and erosion, making it dangerous for motorists, especially heavy-duty trucks. They insist that repeated appeals for repairs have yielded no results, leaving road users exposed to constant danger.

The grieving residents have therefore called on the government to treat the tragedy as a wake-up call and urgently fix the district’s poor road network to prevent further loss of lives.

Speaking to the District Chief Executive for Bia West, Matthew Annor, who was present to mourn with the bereaved families, confirmed that the poor network of roads has been the major challenge in the area; however, the government has been implementing measures to address the road challenge.
