The Member of Parliament (MP) for the Sefwi Akontombra Constituency, Mr Pious Kwame Nkuah, has raised serious concerns about an abandoned nursing quarters project at Sefwi Bopa in the Akontombra District. The project, which was initiated under the previous government, is now being criticized for its poor quality and questionable execution.
Mr. Nkuah described the project as a failed initiative spearheaded by his predecessor, Mr.Alex Djonouboah Tetteh of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who also doubles as the CEO of the construction company responsible for the building, he alleged.
According to the MP, after inspecting the site, he was appalled by the poor standard of the structure. “Everything about the building from foundation to roofing shows incompetence,” he stated. He called for a full audit of the funds used and demanded that the responsible contractor be held accountable.

He added that the people of Bopa are dissatisfied and concerned for their safety, stressing that such a substandard facility should be demolished. “We must put the interest of the community first. I will ensure that this matter is pursued to bring peace and proper development to Bopa,” he assured.
Mr. Joseph Appiah, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Akontombra, also condemned the project. He said he was informed by the Assembly Members of Bopa and Kofikrom Electoral Areas about the deteriorating structure. Upon dispatching a district engineer to assess the site, it was confirmed that the building is a safety hazard.

“The structure is a disaster waiting to happen,” the DCE said. He questioned the rationale behind awarding such a sensitive project to what he termed “an unqualified contractor” and also called for its demolition.

Members of the Bopa community have also voiced their frustrations. Speaking to the media, they described the nursing quarters as a death trap and pledged to take matters into their own hands if nothing is done. “We won’t allow anyone to live in that building. It’s dangerous, and we will break it down if authorities don’t act,” one resident stated.
