Feed Ghana on Course: 231 Youth Trained in Post-Harvest Equipment Fabrication

In Savelugu, a strong collaboration among the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), the World Food Programme (WFP), the GRATIS Foundation, the Mastercard Foundation, and the Ministry of Trade and Industry has led to the training of 231 youth artisans in the fabrication of post-harvest equipment.
As part of the initiative, 300 maize and soya threshers will be distributed to female farmers across the northern enclave.

The programme was officially launched by the Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, in Savelugu in the Northern Region.

The Feed Ghana initiative aims to significantly reduce post-harvest losses — a long-standing challenge faced by Ghanaian farmers due to inadequate processing, storage, and handling facilities. By improving access to modern post-harvest equipment, farmers will be able to preserve produce quality, extend shelf life, and secure better market prices.

Beyond boosting productivity, the programme will create employment opportunities for the trained youth artisans, strengthen local agro-processing capacity, and enhance incomes for smallholder and female farmers. This, in turn, will contribute to greater food security and sustainable agricultural development across the country.
