Former Member of Parliament for Akontombra, Alex Tetteh, has attributed his defeat in the 2024 parliamentary elections to actions taken by Kennedy Agyapong, the former MP for Assin Central and then Board Chairman of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC).
According to Alex Tetteh, the GNPC had approved a project for the construction of the Akontombra Town Park, which he had promised to deliver to his constituents. However, Kennedy Agyapong allegedly refused to sign the necessary documents for the commencement of the project.

He claimed that the delay and eventual cancellation of the project created dissatisfaction among the youth and residents of Akontombra, who felt disappointed over the unfulfilled promise. The project was expected to transform the town’s natural grass field into a modern artificial turf facility.
The former MP said the issue became a major campaign topic during the 2024 elections, with many constituents blaming him for the stalled project, a situation he believes contributed significantly to his electoral loss.

Alex Tetteh made these revelations in an interview on Billionaires TV, a Sefwi Wiawso-based television station, where he expressed his frustration over the incident and accused Kennedy Agyapong of undermining his political efforts in the constituency.
