The Ghana Armed Forces and the Ghana Police Service have launched simultaneous intelligence-led joint operations in parts of the Ashanti, Volta and Ahafo Regions. The operations, which began at dawn on Wednesday, 12 November 2025, are taking place in Dadwene and Anwona in the Ashanti Region, Ehi in the Volta Region, and Hwediem, Kenyase, Guaso and Marhani in the Ahafo Region.
According to a press release issued by the Department of Public Relations at the General Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces, the exercise aims to arrest persons identified in connection with recent attacks on members of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), police officers, and officials of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), including journalists.
The Armed Forces and Police Service have cautioned that anyone who attempts to obstruct the operations of the security agencies in their fight against illegal mining (galamsey) or in the discharge of any other lawful duties will face the full force of the law.
The statement further assured the general public that adequate security measures have been put in place to safeguard residents in the affected towns and communities. Citizens are encouraged to remain calm and go about their normal activities without fear or panic.
The security agencies also commended civil society groups, the media and individuals for their support and condemnation of the recent attacks on the security forces during anti-galamsey operations. They called for continued cooperation from the public to ensure the success of the campaign against illegal mining.
