The Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation, in collaboration with the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) and national security agencies, has dismantled several cybercrime syndicates operating in parts of Accra and its outskirts.
According the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Samuel Nartey George, the operation followed actionable intelligence gathered by the Cyber Security Authority over the past 48 hours. The intelligence identified multiple suspected cybercrime centres operating within East Legon Hills, Afienya, Kwabenya, Weija, and Tuba, where young men were being exploited and coerced by criminal kingpins to engage in illicit online activities.

Acting on the CSA-led intelligence, a joint security task force comprising operatives from National Security Operations, the Cyber Security Authority, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, and the National Police SWAT Unit conducted coordinated raids on January 16 and 17, 2026.
The operations led to the arrest of nine (9) Nigerian nationals suspected to be the main perpetrators and the rescue of forty-four (44) others believed to be victims of human and cyber exploitation. The victims were found operating laptops under supervision in various apartments.

A search of the premises resulted in the seizure of:
Fifty-two (52) assorted mobile phones
Sixty-two (62) laptop computers
Two (2) pump-action guns
In total, fifty-three (53) Nigerian nationals were arrested from the following locations:
East Legon Hills – 5
Afienya – 11
Kwabenya – 10
Weija – 10
Tuba – 17
All suspects have been profiled and handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) for further investigation and appropriate action.
Samuel George cautioned foreign nationals to exercise vigilance and verify claims before accepting invitations to Ghana, noting that some individuals have previously been deceived into criminal networks under false pretenses.

He added that several individuals arrested in earlier operations have already been profiled by GIS and INTERPOL, with some handed over to Nigerian law enforcement authorities at the Seme border, while others are facing prosecution in Ghanaian courts.
“Protecting Ghana’s cyber image internationally is non-negotiable,” Hon. George emphasised. “The Government of Ghana remains resolute in ensuring that our digital ecosystem is secure, credible, and trusted globally.”

The Minister commended the Cyber Security Authority, National Security, CID, and Police SWAT for their professionalism and coordinated efforts in safeguarding Ghana’s cyberspace
