A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Emmanuel Martey, has responded sharply to comments made by the Western North Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Addo Yaw Harry, who claimed that NDC risks losing the 2028 general elections should it present a new presidential candidate.
According to Mr. Martey, such comments only give “false hope” to NPP supporters, arguing that the majority of Ghanaian voters today prioritize development and progress over a candidate’s number of electoral contests.
“In this modern era where about 60% of Ghanaian voters are youth, they will always vote for development and not how many times someone has contested,” he stated.
He maintained that the NDC’s performance in just one year of governance has renewed public trust and confidence in the party’s ability to transform the economy and improve living conditions.
The NDC in one year has done what the NPP failed to do in eight years — bringing stability to the exchange rate and ensuring that prices of goods and services drop marginally. These are achievements that will speak for the NDC in 2028, not necessarily the personality of the candidate,” he noted.
Mr. Martey further highlighted that the NDC government has restored confidence in the investment and banking sectors, where many Ghanaians had previously lost hope.
He concluded that any assumption that the NDC will lose the 2028 elections simply because it might present a new candidate is a dream that will not come true.
