Dr. Alexander Ampaabeng, a key member of Kennedy Ohene Agyapong’s campaign team, has revealed that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost the 2024 general elections mainly because of the controversial E-Levy and Domestic Debt Exchange Programme.
According to Dr. Ampaabeng, many Ghanaians were dissatisfied with the E-Levy policy and the domestic debt exchange initiative introduced by the NPP government, describing them as burdensome and insensitive.
He explained that several citizens complained bitterly at the time the government implemented these policies, as they felt the measures worsened their financial hardships.
Dr. Ampaabeng further mentioned that additional tax policies, including the betting tax, also contributed to public anger, which ultimately reflected in the 2024 election results.
