Government Absorbs Amoaya SHS into Public Education System

In a significant move to improve education in the Sefwi Bodi constituency, the Government of Ghana, through the Ghana Education Service (GES), has officially absorbed Amoaya Senior High School (SHS) into the public education system.

Amoaya SHS, originally established in 2023 as a private day school by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bodi, Sampson Ahi, was created to provide quality education to the good people of Amoaya. With the government’s recent decision, the school will now operate as a public day senior high school.

Sampson Ahi, speaking at a ceremony to announce the absorption, expressed his pride in the achievement. He emphasized that the transition would involve the transfer of all existing structures and land of the school to the Ghana Education Service. Additionally, Ahi revealed plans for the construction of a two-story building with 12 classrooms as part of the initiative.
Ahi also reflected on his legacy as an MP, noting that the establishment of Amoaya SHS would remain one of his key achievements. He mentioned his earlier success in the establishment of Bodi Senior High School and the attainment of government boarding status, alongside the current milestone of Amoaya SHS becoming a public institution.

“The most important thing is that the government has now absorbed the school, Ahi said. “All other developments will follow, including further infrastructure projects. The Director of Education for Bodi, the Regional Director, and I will work together to ensure that the school receives the best facilities possible.”

This is the first phase of infrastructure development for the school.

Rev. Richard Latey Lawson, the Headmaster of Amoaya SHS, also shared his gratitude for the government’s intervention. He commended both the MP and the government for absorbing the school into the public system. “Managing the school as a private institution was not easy,” he explained. “We often faced challenges, especially in paying our teachers. However, with the support of Ahi, we were able to keep the school running.”

Now that the school is part of the public education system, Rev. Lawson called on the government to invest in the necessary infrastructure and facilities to support the school’s growth. He also appealed to the local community to rally behind the school to ensure its continued success and development.

The absorption of Amoaya SHS into the public education system is a significant step forward for the Bodi constituency, with the promise of improved facilities and greater opportunities for students in the region.
