Government to Partner Religious Bodies to Complete Agenda 111 Hospitals

The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has disclosed that government will collaborate with religious organizations to ensure the completion of the Agenda 111 hospital projects across the country.

The Agenda 111 initiative, which was introduced under the previous administration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, was aimed at establishing hospitals in the six newly created regions and other selected districts across Ghana. However, several of the facilities remain incomplete, raising concerns among citizens.

As part of his regional tour, the Health Minister visited one of the Agenda 111 project sites at Bodi in the Western North Region. He inspected the progress of work and later paid a courtesy call on the traditional leaders of Sefwi Bodi.

The chiefs, led by Nana Yaw Moah on behalf of the Chief of Sefwi bodi, appealed to the Minister to expedite the completion of the Bodi hospital. They expressed concern that the district currently has no hospital, forcing residents to travel to Juaboso Government Hospital in emergency situations, which puts lives at risk.

Nana Yaw Moah further urged the government to establish a permanent office for the District Health Directorate. He lamented that the absence of an office has been a major challenge, hampering effective healthcare administration in the area.

In response, Akandoh assured the chiefs and people of Sefwi Bodi that the government is committed to completing all Agenda 111 projects. He explained that President John Dramani Mahama has directed a review of the project documents to find a sustainable way forward.

The Minister revealed that government will engage faith-based and religious organizations to assist in completing the facilities, noting that many of them already operate successful health institutions that serve the nation.

He added that Agenda 111 projects which are between 80 to 90 percent complete will be fully handled by the Ministry of Health, while those below 80 percent completion will be supported through partnerships with religious bodies to ensure their timely delivery and effective use by the people.
