Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Jusboso and double as Minister of Health, conducted an official inspection of the site designated for the construction of a Nursing Training College in the Jusboso District. This visit marks a significant step in fulfilling the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare education in the region. Akandoh, who had previously hinted at this initiative during his confirmation as health minister, reiterated his resolve to establish the nursing college within the year.
During his visit on October 11, Akandoh was accompanied by Mr. Ben Ampoma Nkasa, the Director of Infrastructure at the Ministry of Health, to inspect the land that had been designated for the college’s construction. The land was formally allocated to the government by the local chiefs (Nananom), who offered it without any expectation of compensation. This gesture underscores the community’s commitment to supporting the project and advancing healthcare education in the area.

Akandoh highlighted the importance of proper documentation and legal processes to ensure the smooth implementation of the project, urging the assembly to finalize all necessary paperwork to prevent potential future disputes or litigations. He also emphasized the long-term vision for the nursing training college, noting that while the immediate focus is on the establishment of the institution, there are broader plans for its expansion and development to meet future educational and healthcare needs.
In an interview with the media, the Health Minister expressed confidence that the first cohort of students would be admitted by the next academic year. “This nursing training college will play a pivotal role in training skilled healthcare professionals who will serve not only Jusboso but also neighboring districts,” Akandoh stated. He further emphasized that the project aligns with the government’s broader goal of improving healthcare services through increased local capacity.

Mr. Ben Ampoma Nkasa, the Director of Infrastructure, provided additional details about the planned facilities for the nursing college. According to Nkasa, the institution will be a state-of-the-art facility featuring a three-story hostel, a three-story lecture hall, administrative offices, a dining hall, and a range of other necessary amenities, including an Information Technology Center (ITC), a laboratory, and skill training areas. These facilities are designed to accommodate approximately 500 students, providing them with the resources and environment needed for comprehensive healthcare education.

Construction of the project will begin shortly, following a site inspection by the engineering team. The appointed contractor is expected to submit the architectural designs for the college, with work set to commence soon thereafter. This marks a significant milestone for the Jusboso District, with the nursing training college poised to contribute substantially to the region’s healthcare workforce and education infrastructure.
