Nana Ofori Ahenkan II, Chief of Sefwi Boinzan and Krontihene of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Area, has expressed profound grief over the helicopter crash that occurred on August 6, 2025. The tragic incident has plunged the entire nation into mourning.
The accident claimed the lives of several high-profile government officials and military officers, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed.
Also among the deceased were Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer Mane-Twum Ampadu, Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, Alhaji Limuna Mohammed-Muniru, Samuel Sarpong, and Samuel Aboagye. Their deaths have been described as a monumental loss to Ghana’s governance, security, and development efforts.
Nana Ofori Ahenkan said he shares in the pain of President John Dramani Mahama and the bereaved families, adding that, as an ex-military officer, the news of the crash has deeply affected him.
He joined Ghanaians in observing the President’s declaration of three days of national mourning. During this period, flags across the nation are being flown at half-mast, and condolence books have been opened for citizens to express their sympathies.
The chief paid tribute to the victims’ unwavering service to Ghana, noting that they worked with discipline, vision, and commitment to the nation’s progress and security. He stressed that their legacy will remain a guiding light for generations to come.
While acknowledging the deep pain caused by the tragedy, Nana Ofori Ahenkan took comfort in knowing that the deceased died in active service to their country. He emphasized that their contributions will forever be part of the nation’s history.
He extended heartfelt sympathies to the President, expressing confidence that the outpouring of national and international support will provide strength to the leadership and the bereaved families. He urged Ghanaians to honor the memory of the fallen by remaining united and dedicated to building a stronger, more prosperous nation.
