Juaboso DCE Cracks Down on Unauthorized Transport Fees

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Juaboso, Mr. Alexander Adu Quist, has issued a strong warning to transport operators in the Juaboso District regarding their operations and the fees they charge the public.Speaking on Radio Rainbow, a local station in the district, Mr. Adu Quist emphasized that transport operators do not have the authority to determine and charge transportation fees without the consent and approval of the District Assembly.

He stressed that there are regulations governing transport operations in the district, including a fees-fixing law that even the Assembly must adhere to.“No transport operator has the power to charge fares without Assembly approval,” he said. “All powers exercised by operators come from the Assembly.”Mr. Adu Quist noted that in the past, the Assembly did not benefit financially from transport services within the district.

However, provisions have now been made to ensure that the Assembly receives a percentage of the income generated by transport operators. He expressed concern about individuals exercising powers that are not legally theirs and stated that this must come to an end. According to him, while the Assembly does not have authority over lands (a domain of traditional authorities), it does have the mandate to regulate land demarcation, building permits, and street planning.“You cannot build without the knowledge and approval of the Assembly,” he stated, reiterating that the Assembly oversees how buildings are constructed and ensures proper town planning.

Mr. Adu Quist also addressed sanitation issues in Juaboso, promising improvements. He mentioned ongoing efforts to improve drainage in the township to prevent mosquito breeding and warned residents against dumping waste into water bodies. Offenders, he said, would be prosecuted.Additionally, he issued a stern warning to illegal miners, declaring that mining near water bodies in Juaboso is prohibited and will not be tolerated under his leadership.

He concluded by reaffirming his commitment to making Juaboso a cleaner, safer, and more attractive district for both residents and investors.
