The Juaboso Government Hospital has received a significant boost in maternal and child healthcare following the donation of essential medical equipment and transportation logistics by the Minister of Health and Member of Parliament for Juaboso, Mr. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh.
The facility, which records approximately 100 to 120 deliveries each month, has long struggled with inadequate neonatal care equipment, particularly incubators. According to the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Solomon Yangauu, a substantial number of neonates require thermoregulatory and respiratory support immediately after birth. However, due to the lack of neonatal incubators, the hospital was compelled to refer critical cases to other facilities — a situation that compromised neonatal outcomes and created emotional and financial burdens on families.
To address this urgent need, Mr. Mintah Akandoh has donated four neonatal incubators to be shared between Juaboso Government Hospital and Kofi Krom SDA Hospital. These devices will help stabilize premature and critically ill neonates by providing a controlled, sterile environment with optimal temperature, humidity, and oxygenation — critical components of neonatal intensive care.
In addition, the minister has provided ten motorbikes to the Juaboso District Health Directorate. The motorcycles will be used by community health nurses and field officers to improve healthcare delivery across sub-districts, particularly in hard-to-reach and underserved communities. These logistics will enhance the efficiency of outreach programs, vaccination campaigns, antenatal and postnatal care, and emergency response.
Dr. Yangauu expressed appreciation for the intervention, stating that the incubators will significantly reduce neonatal morbidity and mortality rates. He noted that with adequate medical logistics and continuous support, the hospital’s skilled staff are capable of managing most cases locally without resorting to referrals.
Mr. Akandoh also urged the hospital’s management team to conduct a comprehensive equipment needs assessment and submit a report within the next few weeks to facilitate further government support. He reaffirmed his commitment to the long-term expansion of the Juaboso Government Hospital, emphasizing that while infrastructure development is ongoing, immediate investment in life-saving equipment is crucial to meeting current healthcare demands.
This intervention marks a major step in strengthening the primary and secondary healthcare delivery system in the Juaboso District and aligns with the government’s broader vision of reducing preventable maternal and neonatal deaths, while promoting accessible and equitable healthcare services for all.
