Juaboso MP Commissions Classroom Blocks in Two Communities

The Member of Parliament for Juaboso, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has commissioned two newly constructed classroom blocks in the Juaboso Constituency to enhance educational infrastructure in the area.

The facilities, made up of two separate three-unit classroom blocks, are located in Kefass and Aboaso communities. The commissioning took place on February 23, 2026.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Akandoh reaffirmed his commitment to bringing development to his constituency. He stated that he had promised his constituents never to “return home empty-handed” and that every visit to Juaboso would either mark the commissioning of a project or the start of a new one.

The Deputy Director of Education for Juaboso, Mr. Harry Agyare, commended the MP for his continuous support towards education, emphasizing that the new classroom blocks will help improve teaching and learning in the beneficiary communities. He, however, expressed concern over the decline in school enrollment in the district, attributing it to the growing involvement of school-aged children in illegal mining (galamsey).
Mr. Agyare urged parents to discipline their children and prevent them from engaging in such activities, warning that the habit threatens their future and the community’s progress.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Juaboso, Alexander Adu-Quist, also raised alarm over the increasing number of children abandoning school for illegal mining. He disclosed that a recent oversight committee report revealed that eight school-aged children had been found working at mining sites.

According to him, some parents allow their children to engage in galamsey because they view them as breadwinners for the family. The DCE said the Assembly has tasked local leaders to embark on sensitization campaigns in mining communities to educate parents on the negative impacts of child involvement in galamsey.
He added that a sustained public education campaign would be launched to discourage the practice and protect the future of children in the Juaboso District.
