Kofi Benteh Rehabilitates Bechewa Community Nurses’ Quarters

The Member of Parliament for Sefwi Wiawso, Kofi Benteh Afful, has completed the rehabilitation of the Bechewa Community Nurses’ Quarters, a facility that had been abandoned since 2024 due to severe snake infestation and poor living conditions. The intervention has restored the quarters to a safe and habitable state, bringing relief to health workers in the area.

For nearly two years, the quarters remained deserted after nurses vacated the building to protect themselves from snakes and other reptiles that had invaded the premises. The deteriorated state of the structure made it unsafe for habitation, forcing nurses to find accommodation in nearby communities, which affected their ability to deliver healthcare services effectively.

Recognizing the urgent need to provide a conducive environment for healthcare workers, Kofi Benteh Afful, through his share of the Common Fund, initiated and financed the rehabilitation project. The renovation works included roofing repairs, painting, plumbing, electrical rewiring, and the installation of mosquito nets to enhance safety and comfort for occupants.

Speaking during an inspection of the facility, the MP reaffirmed his commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure and staff welfare across the Sefwi Wiawso Constituency. He emphasized that quality healthcare begins with the wellbeing of healthcare workers, hence the need to provide them with decent accommodation and working conditions.

Community members have expressed their gratitude to the MP for his timely intervention, describing the project as a major relief that will help attract and retain nurses in Bechewa. According to residents, the abandoned state of the quarters had previously discouraged many health personnel from accepting postings to the community.

Health officials in the area have also lauded the rehabilitation effort, noting that it will greatly boost morale among nurses and improve the delivery of quality healthcare services to the people of Bechewa and surrounding communities. They further assured that the facility will be well maintained to prevent a recurrence of the past challenges.

The rehabilitation of the Bechewa Community Nurses’ Quarters forms part of Kofi Benteh Afful’s broader agenda to strengthen healthcare delivery in the Sefwi Wiawso Constituency. His office has pledged to continue supporting similar projects to ensure that every community in the constituency enjoys improved access to quality healthcare.
