An injunction application filed against the funeral celebration of highlife legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has been dismissed by a Kumasi High Court.
One Akosua Serwaa Fosuh, who identifies herself as the legal wife of the late Daddy Lumba, filed an application at the High Court to prevent the head of the Fosuh Royal Family and one other woman, known as Odo Broni, who also identifies herself as Lumba’s wife, from proceeding with the funeral rites.
The injunction followed a controversy over whom to perform the widowhood rights, funeral control and validity of marriages. While Akosua Serwaah claimed to be the legally married wife of the late icon, and should therefore be granted the sole right to perform the widowhood rites, the family also said they don’t recognise her, but rather recognises Odo Broni as the late Lumba’s wife.
The late musician passed away on 26 July 2025. His family had announced that the final funeral rites would take place on December 6, 2025, at Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
The legal tussle has now presents a possibility of delay or adjustment in the date set by the family to organise the funeral.
Contestants in the case include the head of the musician’s family, Kofi Owusu Fosuh, and Ms. Priscilla Ofori, also known as ‘Odo Broni’, who claims to have been married to the star and bore children with him.
