The Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Fire Commander, DO II Enock Tetteh, has revealed that seven people have lost their lives in fire outbreaks and related incidents within the municipality in the first six months of 2025.
Speaking with AkuapemHann, Mr. Tetteh disclosed that the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Fire Service recorded a total of 24 incidents during the period. These included eight domestic fire outbreaks, one industrial incident, four commercial fires, one electrical fire, and four bushfires. The service also responded to three road traffic accidents.
He noted that while two people were rescued during fire incidents, two others sustained injuries. According to him, the second quarter of the year (April to June) recorded more incidents compared to the first quarter (January to March).
Highlighting the causes of some accidents, Mr. Tetteh cited driver carelessness, lack of road signs, impatience, and the recruitment of unqualified drivers. He also warned against driving under the influence of alcohol or other substances.
As part of his safety advice, the Fire Commander urged residents to allow gas cylinders to settle for at least five minutes after refilling before use, and to operate gas-powered vehicles with extreme caution.
