Mother Arrested for Allegedly Severing Daughter’s Toe in Juaboso

Police in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region have arrested a woman, identified as Vivian Anto, for allegedly inflicting serious harm on her 9-year-old daughter.

According to a police situation report, the incident occurred on Friday, April 3, 2026, at about 9:30 a.m. at Sefwi-Proso. The suspect is accused of severing the right index toe of her daughter, Diana Boakye, with a pair of scissors after the child reportedly returned home late.

The victim was rushed to the Kofikrom SDA Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment. Medical personnel confirmed that the child sustained a severe injury to her right foot and is responding to treatment.

The complainant, Stephen Anto, later retrieved the severed toe and handed it over to the police. The item has since been photographed and preserved as evidence.

Police, led by Detective Inspector Mathias Balondon, visited the hospital to assess the victim’s condition. During an interaction, the child identified her mother as the person responsible for the act.

Authorities also issued a medical report form to support ongoing investigations, while photographs of the victim’s injuries were taken for evidential purposes.

Vivian Anto is currently in police custody assisting with investigations and is expected to be arraigned before court after sittings resume following the Easter break.

Police say further updates will be communicated as investigations continue.
