A woman identified as Vivian Anto is expected to appear before the Circuit Court in Sefwi Bodi today following her arrest for allegedly cutting off the toe of her 9-year-old daughter at Proso in the Juaboso District.
The incident, which was first reported by onua News about a week ago, indicated that the child had returned home late after going out with friends. This reportedly angered the mother, who then used a pair of scissors to cut off the child’s toe.
Following the incident, Vivian Anto was arrested by the police, while the injured child was admitted to Kofikrom SDA Hospital for treatment.
According to close sources, during police interrogation, the suspect admitted to the act, stating that her daughter had been consistently disobedient and often ignored her instructions. She alleged that the child sometimes left home without her knowledge and occasionally spent nights at friends’ houses.
The suspect further claimed that her daughter had a habit of taking items that did not belong to her. She said she had made several efforts to correct the child’s behaviour, but saw no improvement.

Narrating the incident, Vivian Anto explained that on Thursday evening last week, her daughter went out and did not return until around 2 p.m. the following day. She said out of anger, frustration, and pressure, she carried out the act in an attempt to stop the child from going out again.
Sources indicate that the suspect, who is an apprentice in fashion and design, used a very sharp pair of scissors.
Further information reveals that Vivian Anto is 26 years old, contrary to earlier reports that stated she was 36.
She was granted bail after 48 hours in police custody due to the holiday period and is scheduled to face prosecution today.

Meanwhile, the child has been discharged from the hospital and is currently in stable condition, staying with her grandmother. Medical personnel were unable to reattach the severed toe because the tissue had deteriorated before treatment. The toe has since been kept by the police as evidence in the case.
Onua News will provide updates after court proceedings.
