The Aowin Constituency Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Salifu Karim Ndego, has appealed to the regional and national leadership of the party to intervene in the protracted impasse between the Aowin Traditional Council and the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Oscar Ofori Larbi.

The dispute, which has lingered for months, reportedly stems from comments made by the MP against the traditional authorities during a media interview. The situation escalated when the traditional council barred the legislator from performing his duties on their land.
According to Ndego, several mediation attempts by constituency executives, prominent personalities from Aowin, the Regional Security Council, the Local Council of Churches in Enchi, the Enchi Nzongo Caucus of the NDC, the Brosa Community in Accra, the Muslim leadership in Enchi, and even neighbouring traditional authorities, have all failed to bring peace. More recently, the youth of Enchi also attempted to mediate but without success.

The traditional authorities demanded an unqualified apology from the MP. Ofori Larbi, accompanied by the Municipal Chief Executive of Aowin, Stephen Morcher, offered the apology, but the council rejected it.
Despite the restrictions, the MP, citing his constitutional duty, later embarked on a delayed “thank you” tour, eight months after the 2024 elections. Ndego alleged that during the tour, the legislator was attacked by individuals believed to be aligned with the traditional council’s security, particularly along the Kordjour–Ebikwawkrom stretch.

He stressed that the continued standoff undermines the development of Aowin and could derail key government policies such as the 24-hour economy, the Responsible and Cooperative Mining Programme, the Feed Ghana initiative, and efforts to boost cocoa production in the constituency.
The NDC executive therefore called on the Western North Regional and National leadership of the party, as well as the Regional and National Houses of Chiefs, civil society groups, and security agencies, to step in urgently. He further urged the Ghana Police Service and the Municipal Security Committee to protect the MP and investigate the alleged attacks.

He warned that the actions of the traditional council threaten not only the fortunes of the NDC in Aowin but also the stability of Ghana’s democratic system.
