Former Deputy Minister of Finance, Dr. Alexander Ampaabeng, has made a passionate appeal to delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ahead of the party’s crucial leadership election scheduled for January 31, 2026.
Dr. Ampaabeng described the upcoming internal contest as a defining moment in the history of the NPP — one that would determine not only the future of the party but also the economic direction of the country.
He emphasized that Ghana’s growing youth unemployment crisis requires bold, practical leadership capable of transforming ideas into tangible opportunities.
“Every year, our universities produce thousands of bright, energetic young men and women with dreams and ambition. Yet, too many of them remain unemployed. Providing sustainable jobs is not a favour — it is our non-negotiable mandate as a party founded on development and enterprise,” he stated.
Dr. Ampaabeng urged delegates to focus on selecting a leader who understands industrialization and job creation through hands-on experience, not theory. Citing global examples, he mentioned how visionary leadership transformed nations such as the United States under Franklin D. Roosevelt, Singapore under Lee Kuan Yew, and China through Deng Xiaoping’s reform policies.
“No nation has ever prospered by accident or miracle. Prosperity is achieved through deliberate action and visionary leadership,” he noted.
The former Deputy Finance Minister endorsed Kennedy Agyapong, describing him as Ghana’s “surest bet for industrialization.” According to Dr. Ampaabeng, Kennedy Agyapong’s private sector achievements demonstrate his ability to drive the kind of industrial transformation Ghana urgently needs.
“He has built industries, created jobs, and understands production and enterprise. At a time when over 1.3 million Ghanaian youth remain unemployed, the answer is not more speeches — it is industrialization, real factories, real businesses, and real jobs,” Dr. Ampaabeng said.
He concluded by urging delegates to rise to the moment and make a choice that will secure the nation’s future.
“The key to Ghana’s transformation is in our hands. The responsibility is ours. The moment is now. Let us choose boldly. Let us choose vision. Let us choose Kennedy Agyapong — and together, change Ghana for good,” he declared.

Dr. Ampaabeng reaffirmed his belief that with visionary leadership and a renewed focus on industrialization, Ghana can follow the path of economic success charted by other transformative nations.
