NPP Risks 12 Years in Opposition If It Loses 2028 Elections – Addo Yaw Harry Warns

The Western North Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Addo Yaw Harry, has cautioned that the party could remain in opposition for up to 12 years if it fails to win the 2028 general elections.

Speaking on Faith FM in Sefwi Wiawso, Mr. Harry stressed that the upcoming 2028 elections are crucial for the NPP’s political survival and must be approached with seriousness and unity.

According to him, the 2028 elections will be particularly challenging because President John Dramani Mahama will not be contesting, meaning the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is likely to introduce a new candidate.

If the NPP loses in 2028 and the NDC’s new candidate wins, that person will likely secure a second term in 2032, which means the NPP will be out of power for 12 years,” he said.

Mr. Harry explained that first-term presidents in Ghana often benefit from public goodwill and emotional support, making it easier for them to win re-election.

He therefore urged party members to put aside personal grievances and internal divisions and to rally behind a strong, experienced, and marketable candidate capable of leading the party back to power.

The 2028 election is not the time for experiments or to test new faces. We need an experienced candidate who can win power for the party,” he emphasized.
