PRESS STATEMENT
On behalf of the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, the Honorable Regional Minister for Western North, Hon. Wilbert Petty Brenntum, has commended the hardworking cocoa farmers of Ghana for their continuous dedication and contribution to national development.
Hon. Brenntum expressed his appreciation to farmers for welcoming government’s recent increase in the producer price of cocoa from GH¢3,228 to GH¢3,625 per bag, representing an addition of GH¢400. He emphasized that this upward adjustment is a demonstration of government’s commitment to the welfare of farmers and to ensuring that their efforts are duly rewarded.
In addition to the price increase, the Honorable Minister announced further interventions to support farmers, including:
Free supply of fertilizers to enhance productivity.
Provision of free agrochemicals to protect and sustain cocoa farms.
Technical and extension support services to serve as catalysts for improved yields.
Rehabilitation of old and unproductive cocoa farms to restore them to viability.
He assured farmers that government remains resolute in its determination to provide the necessary support systems to boost cocoa production, so that Ghana continues to maintain its enviable position as a global leader in the cocoa industry.
The Honorable Minister further encouraged all citizens of Western North to embrace farming—not only in cocoa, but also in food and other cash crops—in order to improve household livelihoods, strengthen food security, and promote economic growth.
“This government thinks of farmers, supports farmers, and will continue to respond to their needs.
Let us all go back to the drawing board and intensify our farming activities to secure a brighter future for Ghana,” Hon. Brenntum reiterated.
This statement is issued in the supreme interest of farmers and the nation at large.
Signed:
Mr. Benjamin Kwabena Afram
