Omanhene of Aowin Warns Against Child Exploitation in Sex Trade

The Omanhene of the Aowin Traditional Council, Beyeeman Tano Kwao Benbuin, has strongly spoken against the growing issue of prostitution in the Aowin area, particularly condemning the exploitation of underage girls.

According to the Paramount Chief, some foreign nationals, especially from Nigeria, have entered Ghana with the intent of engaging in prostitution. He expressed concern that certain individuals are taking advantage of the situation by recruiting and trafficking young girls, including minors, into sex work.

He noted that these victims are often housed in hotels, where they are forced to operate—an act he described as illegal and a serious violation of the rights of children.

While acknowledging that adults may make personal choices regarding their lives, the Omanhene stressed that the exploitation and trafficking of underage girls is unacceptable and must be stopped.

He has therefore called on the Mbrantehene, Nana Kwame Asare Bimpong, to take a leading role in addressing the issue. He further assured that the traditional council will collaborate with law enforcement agencies to clamp down on those involved in the exploitation and protect vulnerable children in the community.
