The Ghana Police Service has arrested seven suspects in connection with a highway robbery that occurred along the Tamale–Buipe Highway in the Savannah Region on 21st July 2025.
The suspects, identified as Rashida Yusif, Aaron Abana Baswiefanga, Wilson Avasong, Muntaru Iddrisu, also known as Virgin, Aminu Zebrilla, also known as Birdman, Inusah Sumaila, also known as Agenda, and Haruna Safiano, were arrested in connection with the crime.

Preliminary investigations indicate that on 21st July 2025 along the Tamale–Buipe Highway, the armed suspects attacked and robbed the victims of mobile phones, cash, wristwatches, reading glasses, a laptop, and other personal items.
An intelligence-led operation resulted in the arrest of suspect Rashida Yusif, who was found in possession of an iPhone 7 Plus belonging to one of the victims. Further investigations traced the phone to a mobile phone shop at Dagomba Line in Salaga, leading to the arrest of suspect Aaron Abana Baswiefanga and subsequently his uncle, Wilson Avasong, in Tamale.
Additional suspects, including Muntaru Iddrisu and Aminu Zebrilla, an ex-convict, were arrested for their roles in the sale of the phone. A search in Aminu Zebrilla’s room uncovered several items, including locally manufactured short gun, one locally manufactured pistol, four live BB cartridges, one locally manufactured sword with the inscription ” Birdman”, one live 5.56×44 CZ ammunition, two live Revolver Ammunition, one Face mask, one Jack knife, a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, one Talisman, one cutter, one catapult, fifteen (15) assorted mobile phones, one Jungle motorbike, seventeen (17) assorted wrist watches, five (5) pen drives, one Telecel sim card and three (3) MTN cards which were removed from the phones that were snatched from victims during the robbery.

Strenuous efforts are ongoing to arrest other suspects who are currently on the run and are believed to be in possession of some weapons.
