The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has gunned down three suspected armed robbers to prevent a planned highway robbery along the Anwiankwanta–Obuasi Highway in the Ashanti Region.
The suspects, identified as Seidu Issah, Musah Yakubu, and Yahaya Munkaila, also known as Tijani, were shot dead on December 24, 2025, when they converged in a bush between Anwiankwanta and the Jacobu junction to execute a robbery operation. Police officers, upon encountering the gang, came under fire and returned fire, resulting in the deaths of the three suspects while two others managed to escape.
From the scene, police retrieved two pump action guns loaded with ammunition, one unbranded pistol, twenty-five live cartridges, and six spent cartridges. The suspects were rushed to the Bekwai Municipal Hospital, where they were pronounced dead on arrival. Their bodies have since been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Investigations indicate that the suspects were behind several major robberies, including the Jacobu airport robbery on November 3, 2025, which resulted in the death of a security guard, as well as multiple highway robberies along the Manso stretch, the Antoakrom and Abofour forest robberies near Offinso, and an attack on a gold buyer at Anwiankwanta on December 8, 2025.
In a follow-up operation on December 26, 2025, at a palm plantation near Manso Nkwanta, where the suspects were believed to have hidden rifles, police recovered one AK47 assault rifle, one MG3 rifle, one pump action gun, and one single-barrel gun, together with ammunition and personal items.

The police say strenuous efforts are underway to trace the sources of the weapons and apprehend the remaining accomplices currently on the run.
