Politics: Akandoh Says It’s a “Curse” for MPs to Serve Only One Term

The Member of Parliament for Juaboso and Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has stated that it is a “curse” for any Member of Parliament (MP) to serve only one term in Parliament.

According to him, it is not beneficial for any MP to represent their constituency for just one term, as experience and influence in Parliament grow with time.

Akandoh made this remark when the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, visited the Western North Region on January 20, 2026, to thank residents for their massive support in the 2024 general elections that brought the NDC back to power.

Speaking during the event, Hon. Akandoh urged the party leadership and constituency executives to continue supporting their sitting MPs, especially first-time legislators, to enable them to gain experience and serve effectively.

He noted that he has served as the Member of Parliament for Juaboso for four terms and now serves as Ghana’s Minister for Health and a Cabinet member.

“If I had served only one term, I wouldn’t have reached where I am today. The longer you stay in Parliament, the more powerful and effective you become,” he emphasized.
Akandoh, therefore, encouraged all party members and constituents to stand behind their MPs to ensure continuity and stronger representation in Parliament.
