Pregnant Woman Brutally Murdered by Husband in Frimpongkrom, Near Côte d’Ivoire Border

A shocking case of domestic violence has left residents of Frimpongkrom, a village near Nkrankwanta in the Dormaa West District of the Bono Region, in grief and disbelief. A Fulani man, identified as Mamud, is currently on the run after allegedly murdering his pregnant wife, Barikisu, in a brutal attack on Sunday, June 15, 2025.

Barikisu, who was reportedly four months pregnant and believed to be under 20 years old, had been enduring continuous abuse at the hands of her husband. According to a local witness and landlord, Mr. Abdullai, the young woman had earlier approached him for help, expressing her desire to return to her hometown due to the mistreatment.

While discussing the matter with both Mamud and Barikisu, Mr. Abdullai reportedly stepped away to take an emergency phone call. During his absence, Mamud allegedly persuaded his wife in their local Fulani language to return home with him. Later that evening, while they were eating, Mamud reportedly stood up abruptly and slaughtered his wife in front of others, in what has been described as a calculated and merciless act.

Following the attack, Mamud fled the scene. Barikisu’s body was taken for medical examination, where doctors performed a surgical procedure to remove the unborn baby before she was buried.

The incident occurred in Frimpongkrom, a village that shares a boundary with Côte d’Ivoire. Security agencies believe the suspect may have crossed the border and have since launched a joint investigation with Ivorian authorities to locate and arrest him.

The community has been left traumatized by the incident, and local leaders are calling for justice to be served swiftly.

Police are appealing to the public for any information that could help in locating the suspect.
