The National Coordinator of rCOMSDEP, Ing. Frank Pedro Asare, Esq., joined a delegation to Tanzania for a peer exchange program under the UK-Ghana Gold Program Project. The visit afforded the team the opportunity to study and exchange ideas on responsible mining and gold trading.

The delegation included,Frederick Ahinkwah, MP and Member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Lands and Natural Resources; Richard Nunekpeku, Esq., Deputy CEO of Ghana GOLDBOD; Arafat Suleiman, Gold Trader; Dr. Steve Manteaw; Samuel Bekoe; Chris Austen; David; and Candice, all from the UK-Ghana Program. The team was also joined by senior officials of Anglogold Ashanti from both Ghana and Tanzania throughout their meetings and discussions.


On the first day, the team paid a courtesy call on the Regional Commissioner of the Geita Region and visited the Geita District Mining Commission Office, as well as small-scale mining sites and processing facilities in Geita.
The second day was dedicated to meetings with the senior management of Geita Gold Mines Ltd., followed by a site inspection at their operational areas.
On the third day, the delegation visited the State Mining Corporation of Tanzania (STAMICO), where they held fruitful discussions on how the Tanzanian government supports and participates in the small-scale mining sector.


The final day featured engagements with the Tanzania Revenue Authority to understand revenue generation from small-scale mining activities. The delegation also visited the Tanzania Chamber of Mines and the Bank of Tanzania to gain insight into the Bank’s role in gold trading and regulation.
