Sanitation and Infrastructure Challenges at Juaboso Senior High School

Juaboso Senior High School, the only public high school in the Juaboso District, Western North Region, is facing numerous challenges, particularly in terms of infrastructure and sanitation.

Overcrowded Classrooms and Dormitories

The school is struggling with a shortage of classrooms and dormitories. According to a report by The Legend TV, both students and staff are dealing with overcrowding. Classrooms meant for 30 students now accommodate 50 to 60 students, making learning conditions difficult and uncomfortable. Similarly, dormitories that should house 20 students are now crammed with 30, leading to a less-than-ideal living situation for the students.

Unsecured Campus and Lack of Toilet Facilities

Another major concern is the lack of a secure perimeter wall around the school. Students often run into town whenever they wish, as there are no proper barriers to secure the campus. Additionally, the school lacks proper toilet facilities, which have been a major issue. In a resourceful but concerning move, students themselves dug a pit and constructed a makeshift toilet using wooden structures.

Unsanitary Cooking Area for Boarders

The situation worsens in the boarding facilities, particularly in the “chicken,” a wooden structure used for cooking. This area, which is meant to serve the boarders, is poorly maintained, with numerous animals and insects present, making it unsanitary and a health hazard. Some boarders expressed their concerns to The Legend TV, calling the conditions “terrible” and stressing their fear for their health due to the uncleanliness of the cooking space.

A Call for Action

Legend report, urges the district authorities, including Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, the Member of Parliament for Juaboso, to pay attention to the pressing needs of the school. While Hon. Akandoh has already contributed by constructing a large dining hall for the school, the current state of the cooking area needs immediate attention.

The school also appeals to local leaders, including the Nananom (traditional leaders) of Sefwi Juaboso District, to visit the school and assess the situation to help address these problems.

A Plea to Alumni

The alumni of Juaboso Senior High School are also called upon to remember their roots and support their alma mater. Many prominent individuals have passed through the school, and now it is time for them to give back and help improve the school’s infrastructure and conditions.

Conclusion

Juaboso Senior High School is an essential institution in the district, and it is crucial that the community and government work together to improve the conditions for the students and staff. The school’s motto, “Think about the future,” highlights the importance of ensuring a better future for the next generation of students.
