The Save Ghana Movement has issued a strong condemnation of the current state of Ghana’s Parliament, accusing Members of Parliament (MPs) of neglecting their constitutional responsibilities in favor of personal and party interests.Mr.Robert Andzie Ansah, Founder of the civic movement, expressed disappointment with what he described as an increasingly unaccountable and ineffective legislature.
He argued that many MPs engage in what he termed “petty politics,” prioritizing political survival and party loyalty over national development and the welfare of their constituents.According to Ansah, the frequent rubber-stamping of executive decisions without critical scrutiny has contributed to a loss of public trust in Parliament. “The lack of transparency and accountability in parliamentary processes is deeply troubling,” he said.
“We must ask ourselves whether Parliament is truly serving the people or simply perpetuating a cycle of disillusionment.”The Save Ghana Movement is calling for a complete restructuring of Parliament, including a possible dissolution, to pave the way for a legislative body that is more representative, accountable, and focused on the development needs of the country.Ansah did not spare the opposition parties either, accusing them of failing to bring development to their constituencies. “We have young and energetic MPs who have the potential to bring change, yet many fall short of expectations,” he stated.
He also urged Ghanaians to rise above partisan politics and take a united stance on national development. “Being in opposition should not mean opposing everything. Constructive criticism and cooperation are essential to good governance,” he emphasized. The Save Ghana Movement’s call for reform adds to the growing public discourse on the need for political accountability and institutional renewal in Ghana.Source: Apiah-Kubi
