Sefwi Akontombra Marks Ghana’s 69th Independence Day and Award Outstanding Students

The 69th Independence Day celebration of Ghana in Sefwi Akontombra was marked with patriotism, unity, and recognition of academic excellence as residents gathered to commemorate the historic occasion. The event brought together students, teachers, traditional leaders, and government officials in a colorful ceremony that reflected the spirit of national pride.

Beyond the vibrant parades and cultural displays, the celebration also highlighted the achievements of some of the district’s brightest students. Awards were presented to the best performers in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) as well as outstanding Basic Education Certificate Examination students, in recognition of their hard work, dedication, and academic commitment.

The recognition of these students served as motivation for others within the district to pursue excellence in their studies. Education authorities noted that celebrating academic success plays an important role in encouraging young people to remain focused on their educational goals and contribute meaningfully to society.

A major highlight of the celebration was the inter-school march past competition. Several schools participated, displaying discipline and coordination during the parade. The schools that secured the first and second positions were specially recognized for their impressive performance, adding excitement and pride to the event.

The awards were presented by the Member of Parliament for the area, Pious Kwame Nkuah, together with the chief of Akontombra and the District Education Officer. They commended the students for their determination and urged them to continue striving for excellence in their academic and personal lives.

This year’s Independence Day celebration in Sefwi Akontombra served not only as a reminder of the country’s historic journey to freedom but also as a platform to promote education, celebrate young achievers, and strengthen community unity as Ghana continues to build a brighter future.
