A 20-year-old convicted robber, Maxwell Awuni, popularly known as Y2K, has been sentenced to 30 years’ imprisonment with hard labour by the Sefwi Bodi Circuit Court in the Juaboso District of the Western North Region.
The conviction follows a robbery incident at Sefwi Elluibo.
On Thursday, January 15, 2026, the accused was arraigned before His Honour Frank Asiedu Nimarkoh, Esq, after a full trial on charges of conspiracy to rob, robbery, and possession of firearms or ammunition without lawful authority.
The court found Maxwell Awuni guilty on all three counts.
He was sentenced to 30 years’ imprisonment with hard labour on each of the first two counts—conspiracy to rob and robbery—contrary to Sections 23(1) and 149 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29). On the third count, possession of firearms or ammunition without authority, contrary to Section 11 of the Arms and Ammunition Act, 1972, he was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment with hard labour.
All the sentences are to run concurrently.
Following the judgment, the convict was remanded in custody and is currently being held in a police cell pending his transfer to the Kumasi Central Prison to commence his sentence.
The Juaboso District Police Command, led by Superintendent Isaac Ostin has assured the public that the police will continue to work hard to ensure the proper safety of residents of the Juaboso District.
