Sefwi Wiawso MP Assures Farmers Despite Producer Price Reduction

The Member of Parliament for the Kofi Benteh Afful constituency has assured cocoa farmers of government support despite the reduction in the cocoa producer price for the 2025/2026 season.

According to the MP, the new price has created concern and distress among many farmers, with several describing it as too low considering the rising cost of production. However, he emphasized that the government is taking steps to address the challenges in the cocoa sector and implement reforms aimed at reviving the industry.

Mr. Benteh Afful revealed that a new bill from Ghana Cocoa Board is being presented to Parliament. The proposed legislation is expected to guarantee cocoa farmers at least 70 percent of the gross Free On Board (FOB) price and introduce an automatic adjustment mechanism for producer prices based on trends in the global cocoa market.

He explained that the move demonstrates the government’s commitment to protecting the livelihoods of cocoa farmers and ensuring they receive a fair share of the value generated from cocoa exports.

The MP made these remarks during an interview with the media on the sidelines of the 69th Independence Day celebration held at Sefwi Asawinso in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipal last Friday.

Meanwhile, the Municipal Chief Executive, Dominic Gyasi, in his address at the event, urged citizens to renew their commitment to national development. He emphasized the importance of discipline, hard work, and unity in restoring hope and driving the nation’s progress.

He noted that collective responsibility and dedication from citizens remain key to building a stronger and more prosperous nation.
