The Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly has announced the maiden edition of the Cocoa City Festival, an event aimed at celebrating and showcasing the rich cocoa heritage of the area. The launch, scheduled for October 2025, will set the stage for a full festival in November 2025.
Speaking at a media briefing, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Dominic Gyasi, emphasized that although Sefwi Wiawso is one of Ghana’s major cocoa-producing areas, the people have not fully benefited from the industry. He explained that the Cocoa City Festival is designed to highlight the municipality’s role in Ghana’s cocoa production and to open doors for investment, culture, and tourism.
According to the organizers, the festival will feature a wide range of activities under the theme “The Cocoa City Experience 2025.” These include a Business Forum, where entrepreneurs and industry players will explore opportunities within the cocoa value chain, and a Cocoa Symposium, which will delve into the economic and cultural significance of the crop.
Residents and visitors can also look forward to vibrant cultural displays. A Street Carnival filled with music, dance, and art will bring the community together, while an Inter-School Cultural Competition will showcase the talent and traditions of young people in the municipality. The festival will climax with a Grand Durbar, bringing chiefs, dignitaries, and the public together in a colorful celebration.
A special highlight of the festival will be the Bomtro Special Edition, giving visitors a taste of the unique cultural identity of the Sefwi people. In addition, guided tours will be organized to promote the natural and tourism attractions of Sefwi Wiawso, ensuring that participants experience both the heritage and beauty of the land.
The Cocoa City Festival promises to be a month-long celebration of culture, tradition, and business opportunities. Organizers are encouraging all residents of Sefwi Wiawso, as well as those in the diaspora, to participate in the event. With its blend of culture, investment, and tourism, the festival is expected to position Sefwi Wiawso as not only a cocoa powerhouse but also a hub of cultural and economic activity.
