The National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations (NAIMOS) taskforce has arrested seven suspected illegal miners in the Amowie Forest Reserve near Nyankakomam within the Aowin Municipality of the Western North Region.
During the operation, the taskforce set ablaze several makeshift structures believed to have served as shelters and operational bases for the miners.

Items retrieved from the scene included two pump-action guns and thirty-three cartridges, which were allegedly used by the suspects for protection during their activities.
The arrest followed a three-day unsuccessful operation by the taskforce before finally apprehending the suspects.
The ongoing exercise forms part of NAIMOS’s intensified efforts to curb illegal mining activities that continue to destroy forest reserves and pollute water bodies across the country.

The seven suspects have since been transported to Accra to face the law.
