Speech by Maxwell Baidoo, President of the Western North Development Association (WENDA)

It is a great honour and a profound privilege to stand before you today as we mark the 7th Anniversary and Regional Impact Summit of SefwiNews.

On behalf of the Western North Development Association, I welcome you most sincerely to this important gathering and extend heartfelt appreciation for your presence here at the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Sefwi Wiawso.

Today’s event is more than just a celebration—it is a moment of reflection, renewal, and recommitment to the growth of media and development in the Western North Region.

Seven years ago, SefwiNews was established with a bold and visionary mission: to rebuild our tribe through journalism.
Since then, that mission has evolved into a vibrant platform that amplifies local voices, highlights development issues, promotes accountability, and tells our stories through our own lenses.

SefwiNews has not only chronicled the region’s progress but has become a bridge connecting communities, leaders, and opportunities for development.

Our theme for this year’s celebration, “Leading the Western North Media Revolution,” is both timely and purposeful.
The media landscape continues to evolve rapidly, shaped by technology, social media, and the growing demand for credible, fact-based, and development-oriented information.

The challenge before us is not whether change will come it already has but how we respond to it and who will lead it responsibly.
Leading a media revolution does not mean chasing sensational stories or trading truth for popularity.

It means upholding the core values of journalism professionalism, ethics, accuracy, and fairness.

It means using media as a force for education, peacebuilding, and community transformation.

And most importantly, it means equipping our journalists with the tools, training, and confidence to tell the Western North story on national and global stages.

Our region is blessed with rich natural resources, fertile lands, entrepreneurial youth, and a vibrant cultural identity.

Yet, to fully unlock this potential, we need a media that tells our development stories truthfully and powerfully.

A media that holds leadership accountable while also promoting unity, innovation, and progress.
This summit offers us the opportunity to exchange ideas, build networks, and strengthen partnerships between media practitioners, policymakers, traditional leaders, civil society, and development stakeholders.

Together, we can shape a new media narrative—one that uplifts our people and drives sustainable regional growth.

As we deliberate today, I urge every participant to engage actively, share insights, and commit to advancing a credible, professional, and development-focused media front for the Western North Region.

Once again, I thank you all for your presence and continued support. May our discussions today inspire unity, innovation, and a renewed spirit of purpose in our collective journey toward development.

Thank you, and may God bless you all.
