Suaman MP Launches “One Community, One Borehole” to Tackle Water Scarcity

by Emmanuel Sowah

Suaman, Western North Region — In a bold and compassionate move to address one of the most pressing challenges facing rural communities, the Member of Parliament for Suaman Constituency Mr. Frederick Addy, has officially launched the “One Community, One Borehole” initiative.

The programme, which fulfills a long-standing promise to the people of Suaman, seeks to ensure that every community has access to clean, safe, and reliable drinking water — a basic human necessity that many have gone without for far too long.

The first phase of the project is already underway, with borehole construction actively ongoing in Sonitra, Bediabeng, Suibo Junction, Apraku, and Gyampokrom. Two additional boreholes are being built in Karlo, marking a significant stride in tackling the acute water shortage in the area.

“This is more than just providing water — it’s about restoring dignity, promoting fairness, and protecting the health of our people,” the MP said during the launch. He further emphasized that many of the affected communities have suffered from the devastating effects of illegal mining (galamsey), which has polluted rivers and rendered local water sources unsafe for consumption.

With this initiative, the Suaman Constituency is leading by example in prioritizing sustainable development and social justice. The MP called on development partners, local leaders, and all well-meaning citizens to rally behind the initiative, noting that “Water is life, and together, we can make it accessible to all.”

The people of Suaman have expressed overwhelming joy and gratitude, with many describing the initiative as a “dream come true” and a “lifesaving intervention.”

As the borehole project progresses, hopes are high that more communities will be reached, and the region’s struggle with water scarcity will soon become a thing of the past.
