W/N Journalists Association Refutes Legendreport’s Claims of Reporters Extorting Money from Miners

Western North Journalists Condemn Allegations of Extortion, Demand Evidence

The journalists in Western North, led by the acting media leader, Pollo Esposito have taken strong exception to a recent publication accusing some journalists in the region of extorting money from illegal miners. We view these allegations as a serious attack on the integrity and professionalism of our members.

While we acknowledge the importance of investigating and reporting on issues of public interest, including illegal mining, we find it unacceptable to make sweeping accusations against journalists without providing concrete evidence to support them. We, therefore urge Legendreport.com to come forward with specific names and instances, if they have any, to enable us to take necessary actions.

We want to assure the public that the media in Western North is committed to upholding the highest standards of journalism ethics and professionalism. We will not tolerate any behaviour that compromises our integrity or undermines the trust the public has in us.

We call on the relevant authorities to investigate these allegations and take action against anyone found to be engaging in such unprofessional conduct. We are willing to cooperate fully with any investigations and take disciplinary action against any journalist found guilty of misconduct.

We urge the public to continue to support our efforts in holding those in power accountable and reporting on issues of public interest. To our good people of Western North Region, we, the media, remain committed to serving the people of Western North with integrity and professionalism.

The media fraternity in Western North Region once again wants to assure you of our unwavering commitment to partnering with the public, the security agencies employed, and the government as a whole in the fight against illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey.

We recognise the devastating impact of this menace on our environment, water bodies, and livelihoods.

We pledge to utilise our platform to expose and report on illegal mining activities, while also highlighting efforts by stakeholders working to combat this issue. We will also uphold the principles of responsible journalism, ensuring that our reporting is accurate, fair, and serves the public interest.

Together, we can make a difference. We invite you to join us in this crusade against galamsey by sharing information, reporting suspicious activities, and supporting initiatives that promote environmental sustainability.

Thank you for your trust in us.

Signed:
Acting Chairman
Pollo Esposito
