The Aowin Constituency Youth Organiser of National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Robbert Ayeebillah, has admitted to leading a group of young men to forcibly close down the Enchi Forestry Commission office over allegations of unfair recruitment practices.
In a report published yesterday by Legendreport, it was alleged that some NDC youth had stormed the Forestry Commission office in protest. The incident was said to be connected to employment recruitment believed to favour members of New Patriotic Party (NPP).Following the report, Legendreport reached out to Mr. Ayeebillah for clarification. He confirmed his involvement, stating that he mobilised the youth to “sack” the officers and lock up the office due to unresolved concerns regarding jobs for NDC-affiliated youth.
According to Mr. Ayeebillah, a contract between the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) and the Forestry Commission under the previous government—which focused on youth afforestation programs—ended on April 30. However, he claims individuals affiliated with the NPP continue to work at the Commission while many NDC youth remain unemployed.“We have submitted several complaints to the appropriate authorities, but no action has been taken,” he said.Mr. Ayeebillah further explained that they received information that new recruitment interviews were being conducted at the office. When he visited to verify, he said he saw about five individuals known to be NPP members, one of whom confirmed they were there for an interview. This, he claimed, prompted him to organize his group to halt the process and lock the office in protest.
“The decision to lock the office was to raise awareness about the unfair practices happening under the current office manager. We don’t want him to continue in that position,” he said.He concluded by calling on the leadership of the NDC to recognise the efforts and sacrifices of the Aowin youth, stating that they worked hard to bring the party to power and now expect support in securing employment opportunities.
